Air quality attorney, Bob Yuhnke, is representing the
Mitchell Elementary School parents. As counsel for
Environmental Defense , Sierra Club, Natural Resources
Defense Council, and state and local parents' and
community organizations, he has brought numerous
lawsuits to enforce the federal Clean Air Act.
He directed litigation that shut down the 10-lane expansion
of US 95 through Las Vegas NV for 16 months until a
settlement was reached that required the relocation away
from the highway of one school, and the installation of
state-of-the-art filtration systems on two other schools
adjacent to the freeway.
Yuhnke said that H.B. 1293 would prevent the conflicts
between highways and children’s health from highway
pollution that resulted in litigation to shut down the US 95
project. The bill would assure protection for children’s
health while paving the way for expanded highway facilities.
